Timed Animal Habitat Trivia Challenge

Four self-contained habitat trails

A full challenge contains twenty correctly identified animals divided into four trails of five sightings. The countdown waits until the first answer or Field Mark, stops after the fifth correct identification, and resets before the next trail. Easy allows 84 seconds per trail, medium 72, and hard 60. That structure prevents one unfamiliar species from consuming the time reserved for every later habitat while still rewarding fast, careful reading.

Balance film, hints, and streak scoring

Three camera-film lives last across all four trails. A wrong answer deducts 48 points, breaks the streak, disables that species drawer, and spends one frame; using the third closes the run. Field Marks cost 30 points and add the animal group plus a distinguishing trait. Correct identifications award a 190-point base, the remaining seconds, and an increasing streak bonus. Clearing a five-sighting trail adds another time-sensitive award, while completing the journal adds bonuses for unused film and Field Marks.

Pause and restart with predictable state

P, Escape, or the Pause control freezes an active timer while preserving the dossier, answer order, rejected choices, score, film, hints, streak, and remaining seconds. Resume continues from the same moment. R or Restart creates a fresh twenty-animal route at the selected level, and changing Easy, Medium, or Hard begins clean with its matching animal pool, timer, and hint allowance. Timers, scoring, shuffling, facts, and progress all run locally in the browser.
